Revision Notes
The 2002 data tables and graphs were initially posted on the web in October of 2002 without using the editing system used in prior surveys. Studies indicate that the majority of students answer this type of survey truthfully, but it is common practice to review the data for inconsistent patterns and dubious or exaggerated reports of risky behavior. These edits, when applied, remove about 2% of the records from the data used for reporting. The effect of applying the standard edits is that the prevalence of behaviors such as tobacco, alcohol and other drug use, risky sexual behavior, and fighting are estimated to be slightly lower than those reported in October 2002.
We are re-posting the data during May and June 2003, to reflect the same editing plan used in prior years, so that people who want to compare results between years will be able to do so more accurately. For more information on the edits, please see the
2001 Methods section (pdf)
