Rape Prevention and Education Program (RPE)

  • The RPE Program was established by the federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994.
  • Oregon is one of 59 state and territories to receive RPE funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • The Women's Health Program administers RPE funding via a five-year contract (2004 – 2009) with the Oregon Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force.
  • The Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force coordinates statewide prevention efforts and subcontracts the majority of RPE funds to nonprofit anti-sexual violence programs to prevent sexual violence locally.
  • Fourteen local RPE-funded projects address root causes of sexual violence with multi-session, research-based, educational presentations in schools and organizing to increase community ownership over sexual violence prevention.
