Alcohol and Other Drug Screening Specialists (ADSS)

What Services Do ADSS Provide?

ADSS provide the following services as required by Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 813.021 and ORS 813.260:

  • Screening interviews;
  • Referral to a Division-approved DUII services provider;
  • Treatment progress monitoring; and
  • Reporting successful completion or failure to complete the screening interview or treatment to the referring court.

How Do I Become an ADSS?

​To qualify for certification an ADSS, you must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health field, or
  • Have an Associate's degree in a behavioral health field and two years of full-time, supervised experience providing substance use disorder evaluation or treatment, or
  • Have four years of full-time, supervised experience in the behavioral health services field with a minimum of two years of experience providing substance use disorder evaluation or treatment.​

​​​​To become certified as an ADSS, qualifying individuals must: 

  • ​​Submit a completed application (OHA 8054​),  
  • Submit a designation letter from each court jurisdiction they intend to provide ADSS services for (Sample Court Designation Letter 01-01-2018​), and 
  • Pass a background check conducted in accordance with OAR 943-007-0010 to 943-007-0501.
