The Council

The OHA Director has appointed the following members to the Council:

Barbara Hansen, RN, Vice Chair, Oregon Hospice & Palliative Care Association

Rev. Andrea Cano, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon

Linda De Sitter, MD, MPH, Providence Connections Palliative Care

Robert Macauley, MD, FAAP, FAAHPM, OHSU

Glen Patrizio, MD, Bottled Hope Inc. & Mid-Columbia Center for Living

Julia Victoria Salve, MN, FNP-C, ACHPN, Care Partners Hospice

Seiko Izumi, PhD, RN, FPCN, OHSU

Ryan Weller, LCSW, APHSW-C, Department of Veterans Affairs

The council has expertise in the following areas:

Nursing;
Social work;
Pharmacy;
Clergy or individuals who have professional spiritual expertise; and
At least two board-certified physicians or nurses with expertise in palliative care.

The members will meet at least twice a year or more upon request.

The role of the Council is to consult with and advise the OHA director on the:

Establishment, maintenance, operation and evaluation of palliative care initiatives in Oregon;
Implementation of Section 5 of Senate Bill 608, requiring health facilities to identify patients or residents who could benefit from palliative care; provide information to patients, residents and their families about palliative care; and coordinate with a patient's or resident's primary care provider, if practicable, to facilitate the access of patients and residents with serious illnesses to appropriate palliative care; and
Information and resources to publish on its website relating to palliative care, which may include best practices, continuing educational opportunities, consumer education, and referral information.
