The Council 


The OHA Director has appointed the following members to the Council:

 The council has expertise in the following areas:
  • Nursing;
  • Social work;
  • Pharmacy;
  • Clergy or individuals who have professional spiritual expertise; and
  • At least two board-certified physicians or nurses with expertise in palliative care.

The members will meet at least twice a year or more upon request.

The role of the Council is to consult with and advise the OHA director on the:
  • Establishment, maintenance, operation and evaluation of palliative care initiatives in Oregon;
  • Implementation of Section 5 of Senate Bill 608, requiring health facilities to identify patients or residents who could benefit from palliative care; provide information to patients, residents and their families about palliative care; and coordinate with a patient's or resident's primary care provider, if practicable, to facilitate the access of patients and residents with serious illnesses to appropriate palliative care; and 
  • Information and resources to publish on its website relating to palliative care, which may include best practices, continuing educational opportunities, consumer education, and referral information.
