Our Role
The
Oregon EMS and Trauma Systems Program oversees all initial education for EMS providers. Oregon colleges, universities, community colleges, and other approved programs provide the training and instruction to qualify EMS providers for licensure in the state of Oregon.

Educational Requirements
Curriculum standards for EMR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic follow the
National EMS Education Standards (2021).
Curriculum standards for EMT-I follow Oregon EMS Education Standards.

Examination Process
Oregon utilizes the examinations of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for EMT, AEMT and Paramedic certification testing. Examinations developed by Oregon are utilized for licensure testing at the EMR and EMT-Intermediate levels. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to participate in the exam process for the level of training completed.
Upon successful completion of the NREMT examination process at the EMT, AEMT or Paramedic level, the candidate is eligible to apply for Oregon licensure. Upon successful completion of the examination process at the EMR or EMT-Intermediate level, the candidate is eligible to apply for an Oregon license.
