Under Oregon law, county clerk offices have primary responsibility for amending marriage and Oregon Registered Domestic Partnership (ORDP) records. Once filed at the local county clerk office, records are forwarded to the State Vital Records office for filing. For more information, see ORS 106.100 and ORS 106.300.

To Change a Marriage or Oregon Registered Domestic Partnership Record

  • To request a correction, contact the local county clerk office that issued the marriage or Oregon Registered Domestic Partnership certificate (find your county and search for "marriage," "domestic partnership," or "county clerk").
  • If the county clerk office approves an amendment or correction, they ask the State Vital Records Office to correct the marriage or ORDP record in the state file. The State Vital Records Office will not charge a fee for these corrections, but one may be required by the county clerk. Check with the county clerk office for any required fees or documentation that may be needed.
  • If you received marriage or ORDP certificates from the State Vital Records Office within the last year and the record has been corrected, you may exchange those certificates free of charge for amended certificates.
