What Are Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services?
Culturally and linguistically specific services (CLSS) are outpatient behavioral health services. They support minoritized communities. These are communities harmed in the past or present based on the community's:
- Race,
- Ethnicity,
- Gender identity,
- Sexual and affectional orientation,
- Ability status, and/or
- Migration history.
CLSS providers, programs and organizations have experience serving these communities. They may also have staff with lived experience in the communities they serve. They may provide direct care in a non-English language, or sign language. They support and affirm the needs of the community's culture or language, such as:
- Health and safety beliefs or practices.
- Positive cultural identity, pride, or resilience.
- Immigration dynamics.
- Religious beliefs.
