About

view enlarged project mapWe are making safety improvements at the intersection of OR 211 and S Meridian Road to help reduce the number of crashes. We're also analyzing the intersection to see what other safety improvements can be made.

We are currently planning an all way stop for this intersection. The improvements could include:

  • Adding stop signs on OR 211 at Meridian Road.
  • Installing a large overhead pole with red flashing light.
  • Installing transverse rumble strips across the lanes approaching the intersection. Transverse rumble strips are grooves in the road that warn drivers to slow down or stop by creating vibrations and sounds.
  • Adding "Watch for Entering Traffic" signs on OR 211 approaching the intersection.

Safety Improvements We've Completed

At the NW and SE corner, we have:

  • Installed larger stop signs to make it easier for drivers to see as they approach the intersection.
  • Installed and tested red flashing beacons on top of the stop sign posts to alert the driver that they need to stop.
  • Added “cross traffic does not stop” plates below the stop sign.
  • Added reflective red tape onto the stop sign poles to help make the signs more visible.
  • Added reflective markers, called delineators, at the corners to help make the intersection easier for drivers to see when it is dark.
  • Removed advertisements and signs that could be distracting or blocking drivers view.
  • Mowed, pruned branches and cleared plants to improve driver visibility of signs and other cars.

At the NE and SW corner, we have:

  • Installed stop signs on the left side of the road to alert drivers on Meridian Road to stop.

We have also:

  • Refreshed the stop bar paint and striping to make lanes and where to stop more visible.
  • Installed intersection ahead warning signs with amber flashing beacons on OR 211.
