Fallen Firefighter

The 2019 Oregon Legislature passed a law (SB 528) to honor firefighters killed in the line of duty. The law sets up a program to allow for a roadside memorial sign to be installed on a state highway to commemorate fallen firefighters.

Guidelines

Memorial signs may be installed for those firefighters killed in the line of duty and who have been recognized by the Oregon Legislature through a concurrent resolution. SB 528 defines a firefighter as any fire or forestry department employee or authorized fire department volunteer, vested with the duty of preventing or combating fire or preventing the loss of life or property by fire.

To begin the process to have a memorial sign installed, please contact your state Senator or Representative to request he or she sponsor a concurrent resolution for the fallen firefighter.
