Online

Though it typically takes about 3 business days, it can take up to 1 week to receive your stickers or registration card if you renew online.

By Mail

It can take 6 weeks to issue your stickers or registration.  Please do not cancel your check and wait to contact DMV to check the status of your renewal until it has been over 7 weeks since you mailed it.

You do not have to renew the registration if the vehicle is not being driven. When you want to use the vehicle again, you can renew the registration at that time.

Warning: Some cities and counties do not allow unregistered vehicles to be parked on the roadway.

Online renewal
If you have a residence address in Oregon, you can renew vehicle registration online through DMV2U even if your mailing address is out of state. However, if your residence address is not in Oregon, you cannot renew through DMV2U. You can use any other option for renewal.

Residency/Domicile requirement
To be eligible to register and renew vehicle registration in Oregon (by any method), you must either be a resident of, or domiciled in, this state. It is possible to be domiciled in Oregon even if you have an address outside of Oregon.

Proof of Residency/Domicile
DMV will request proof of residency/domicile if you provide a residence address outside Oregon during vehicle registration/renewal and we don’t have an Oregon situs address listed for the vehicle. If you are domiciled in Oregon but are temporarily out of state for reasons related to military service, you can provide proof that Oregon is listed as your legal residence in military records.

Acceptable forms of proof include:
  • A copy of your military Leave and Earnings Statement.
  • A current Oregon tax return.
  • A currently dated letter from the military payroll office.
DMV requests this proof in addition to Form 7182.

The types of proof listed above are also acceptable if you are the spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child of a military member and are renewing your vehicle registration in Oregon.
