The following information describes typical benefits available for employees. Benefits may differ by position or be prorated for other than full-time work.

Medical, Dental, Vision, and Wellbeing

Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans for the employee and qualified family members

  • Learn more about health benefits on the PEBB website
  • The Canopy Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers many wellbeing services free to ODOT employees and their dependents
  • $5,000 in employee basic life insurance is provided at no cost to the employee

Paid Leave

  • Sick leave earned at the rate of 8 hours per a month with no maximum accumulation
  • Vacation leave earned at a minimum rate of 8 hours per month with accrual rate increases based on longevity or collective bargaining agreement
  • Additional miscellaneous paid leave provisions
  • Eleven paid holidays a year

Retirement

Membership in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) / Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP)

  • Effective February 1, 2019, management service and unrepresented employees who are PERS participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95%. Upon becoming a PERS participating member, management service and unrepresented employees pay the employee 6% contribution to PERS
  •  Effective November 1, 2016, SEIU represented employees who are PERS participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95%. Upon becoming a PERS participating member, SEIU employees pay the employee 6% contribution to PERS
  • If your gross pay in a month exceeds the monthly salary threshold for PERS, a portion of your Individual Account Program (IAP) contribution is redirected to your Employee Pension Stability Account (EPSA)
  • The Oregon Savings Growth Plan (OSGP) is a voluntary 457(b) deferred compensation plan available through the state of Oregon to public employees whose employers participate in OSGP

Protected Leave

Life happens, planned or unexpected, and you may need time off work to recover, help others, and move forward. Employees have access to protected leave - time off work for a serious health condition of the employee or family member, parental leave, sick child leave, bereavement leave, and/or to care for a military service member.

Public Student Loan Forgiveness

  • If you're employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you might be eligible for the PSLF Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on qualifying Direct student loans

Wellness and Work-Life Balance

  • Flexible Work Schedules: Employees may have the option to work an alternative work schedule. Examples of alternative work schedules include three-day weekends "4/10's" or flexible start and end times as long as full-time hours are maintained with supervisor approval
  • Regularly scheduled and task-based teleworking: Regularly scheduled and task-based telecommuting are available options. Employees can work from their residence or at another approved location away from their permanent office location. This helps reduce transportation congestion and employee commuting expenses while promoting work-life balance
  • Mental Health Focus and Counseling: We have access to an Employee Assistance Program through Canopy that offers confidential individual and family counseling and well-being services for free
  • Health and Wellness programs: Monthly benefit of $50/month for gym memberships or approved wellness programs

Temporary Employment

Temporary appointments do not include the typical benefits available for employees. Temporary employees may be eligible for employee health benefits offered through the Public Employees Benefit Board as outlined in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
