I-5: Salem - Albany Traffic Cameras & Message Signs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We're installing traffic surveillance cameras and message signs along I-5.

Traffic Impact

Expect 24/7 shoulder closures at various location along I-5 in the project area.

Construction Impacts

You can expect:

  • Most work to be done during the day, Monday through Thursday with nighttime work as needed.
  • Nighttime shoulder and lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Construction noise and debris.
  • Occasional delays.​​
Plan ahead for nighttime lane closures while we install the hanging VMS boards.

Construction Activities

You'll see crews working in the shoulder preparing to install the VMS boards, please use caution.

​Pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will have access through or around work zones. ​

Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers. 

Remember: fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not. ​​

Enlarged project map​The I-5 corridor between Salem and Albany currently experiences unreliable travel times, congestion and delays caused by crashes. 

We are implementing recommendations and guidance from the I-5 Optimization Project report to remove our older signs and replace them with new variable message board signs and traffic congestion cameras.
