Potential Construction and Traffic Impacts

Find out what impacts you can expect when construction starts

When we start construction on Phase 1 in 2026, you can expect most of the work to be under the bridge.

project alerts iconDuring this multi-year project, there will be ramp and lane closures and some short-term full Center Street Bridge closures. Impacts may change as design continues and we work out details with our partners at the City of Salem.

We'll continue to share updates as we know more. Make sure you're signed up to get email updates from us! If you do, you'll get the invite to our construction online open house later this year right to your inbox.

Learn about possible traffic impacts you can expect during this multi-year project by clicking on the titles below or the plus signs.

During the multiple years of construction, we may need:

  • Periodic lane closures.
  • 24/7 two-lane closures on the bridge for up to four months.

Ramp closures will be needed to complete portions of the work. Potential closures could include:

  • Eastbound traffic to the southbound Front Street ramp may close for up to two months.
  • Eastbound traffic to the northbound Front Street ramp may close for up to two months.
  • Northbound to westbound Marion Street ramp may close for up to two months.

We may need up to four full road closures to install new bridge joints. We’ll aim to schedule the closures at nighttime when there is less traffic. Potential detour may use OR 99W through Corvallis or Newberg.

One of the northbound lane on Front Street may close for up to four months.

We may need to close one lane of Water Street for several months at a time. Traffic would share a single lane.

We may need a nighttime full Water Street closure to deliver materials and equipment to the work site during construction.
