OHCC also supports workforce development by attending career fairs, holding recruitment events and reaching out to recent high school and college graduates, second career workers, and individuals who reflect the diversity of the communities where they live and work.

Strategic plan for workforce development

OHCC worked together with partners to develop a strategic plan for the recruitment and retention of homecare and personal support workers. Our workforce development vision is that individuals will have access to supports and services from a qualified, trained and diverse workforce through the OHCC Registry. 

The plan has three main goals:

• Position homecare and personal support workers as trained, credentialed professionals.
• Attract and retain a diverse and appropriate pipeline of qualified workers to meet the demand for homecare and personal support workers.
• Facilitate user-friendly approaches to connecting homecare and personal support workers with prospective employers.

The plan outlines 17 action initiatives to help us meet our goals. The first is to develop and pilot a pre-employment assessment tool.

Workforce Development Committee

OHCC works closely with the state of Oregon and other partners to fulfill the workforce development goals created with the passage of Senate Bill 774. Our partners include Workforce Investment Councils across the state, individuals who receive help at home, self-advocates, commissioners, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and community organizations. The committee worked together to create a strategic plan and OHCC has started implementing the action initiatives in the report. The committee helps guide that work.
