On-Farm Readiness Reviews (OFRRs) are a way to help operations prepare for inspections. OFRRs allow operations to assess how well they align with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule. They are most helpful when conducted as close to harvest as possible.
Benefits of an On-Farm Readiness Review
OFRRs go beyond the grower training class in that you can discuss the specifics of your operation with the review team. Reviewers help assess what parts of the Produce Safety Rule do and do not apply to your operation. The team also provides extra resources to help meet the requirements.
What does an OFRR involve?
- OFRR review teams consist of at least two to three ODA staff members
- Plan on 2-3 hours to talk about and walk around your operation
- Free, confidential and voluntary assistance

East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District's Headwaters Farm Incubator, Oregon Department of Agriculture and Oregon State University held a Demonstration On-Farm Readiness Review (OFRR) workshop in November, 2019. The five videos provide a glimpse into what an OFRR could look like on your operation. Each video provides key information from different subparts of the Produce Safety Rule like Worker Health and Hygiene, Sanitation, Wildlife and Domesticated Animals, Biological Soil Amendments of Animal Origin and Agricultural Water.
