Taking Action for Oregon

Oregon is famous for its efforts to protect the environment and for not doing business as usual. Today, the Department of Environmental Quality is meeting the challenge of climate change head-on. Science shows that, working together, we can make a difference. DEQ is participating in statewide, regional, national, and global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, prepare for impacts and help nurture a cleaner, more sustainable world.

The Office of Greenhouse Gas Programs

The Office of Greenhouse Gas Programs is leading DEQ's effort to reduce Oregon's contribution to global greenhouse gas pollution by developing and implementing policies, strategies and programs that provide important reductions in these emissions. The Office of Greenhouse Gas Programs has existing programs to track and reduce greenhouse gases in Oregon, and we are developing more programs to efficiently and equitably reduce these emissions.

Our programs include:

  • Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program: Large greenhouse gas emitters must report their emissions to DEQ each year. These reports help DEQ track statewide emissions and inform policy development. 
  • Clean Fuels Program: Transportation fuel companies must reduce the carbon intensity of the fuels supplied to Oregonians. 

The office continuesto develop programs to help achieve Oregon's greenhouse gas reduction goals. 

  • Visit Third Party Verification Program to learn more about DEQ's efforts to improve data reliability and provide necessary assurances that emissions reports are calculated accurately and that they correctly meet DEQ's reporting requirements.
