Building Energy Use Intensity

Energy Use Intensity, Agency Building Portfolio, 2018-2022

In addition to total energy use, ODOE reports on each agency’s energy use intensity, or EUI. EUI measures how efficiently energy is used in a building per square foot.

Executive Order 17-20 and HB 3409 direct agencies to work toward and comply with EUI targets for individual buildings based on type of building use and Oregon’s climate.

While ODOE regularly publishes its SEED Report documenting building-by-building EUI for state agencies, this metric shows an average EUI for each agency’s whole building portfolio. This considers different building types and is a broad measure of how energy efficiently an agency’s building portfolio is operating.
