Online courses give you the flexibility to learn on your own time! These Oregon-approved online courses allow you to:

  • Study the course material
  • Take the final exam
  • Apply for your Boating Education Card through their site

Check out the details below to see which course best suits your learning style. Other course options include classroom courses and equivalency exams.

These NASBLA-approved online courses are not administered by the Oregon State Marine Board.

Boat-Ed

Boat Ed Online Course 


In this online course, you will learn all about boating safety when operating a boat in Oregon. You will be in the driver's seat with hundreds of interactive exercises. You'll feel like you're having fun on the water while watching live-action videos of boat operators and PWCs in action.

Once you've created an account, you have 60 days to complete the course and exam.

If you pass the course, your credit card will be charged the amount of your Oregon Boating Education Card ($20). Boat Ed will send the Marine Board your payment for the card and your information. The Marine Board will send you the card within 2-3 weeks from the date you approved and paid for the course and card. The Certificate of Completion acts as a temporary boating education card for 30 days, so print it out and carry it with you.

ilearntoboat


The ilearntoboat Oregon course gives you an interactive approach to online boating education. You can be sure that you will be learning what you need to know to be a safe boater as you solve the Mystery of Kalkomey Isle. You will encounter real-life situations, and you decide if the activity is safe. Also included are key boating concepts taught in the games throughout the course.

Once you have created an account, you have 60 days to complete the course and test.

BOATERexam

Boater Exam Online Course

If you like to hear while reading, BOATERexam Oregon is the course for you. This online course narrates the study guide and features over 300 animated illustrations and has animated videos of boaters that help you understand safe boating.  In addition, BOATERexam online boating safety course is where you will see visual aids in every exam question (a must for visual learners!).

Once you have created an account, you have 60 days to complete the course and test.

If you pass the course, you have the option of paying the cost of the boating education card ($20) online. Paying through their online course, BOATERexam will send the Marine Board your payment for the card and your information. The Marine Board will send you the card within 2-3 weeks from the date you passed and paid for the course and card. Boat-Ed Spanish

Boat-Ed Spanish Course

En este curso en línea, aprenderá todo sobre la seguridad de la navegación y la operación de barcos en Oregón. Estará al mando del timón con cientos de ejercicios interactivos. Sentirá que se divierte en el agua mientras ve vídeos en directo de operadores de embarcaciones y motos de agua en acción.

BoatUS Foundation

Boat US Online CourseThe BoatUS Foundation's Online Boating Safety Course is free. This course includes animations showing the importance of the navigation "rules of the road." Videos show how to use safety equipment such as visual distress signals, fire extinguishers, and life jackets. They also have animations showing the navigation rules, plus photos of real boats and boating equipment.

Once you have created an account, you have 60 days to complete the course and test.

If you pass the course, you have the option of paying the cost of the boating education card ($20 + $1 processing fee = $21). Paying through their online course, BoatUS will send the Marine Board your payment for the card and your information. The Marine Board will send you the card within 2-3 weeks from the date you passed and paid for your card. If you do not pay for your card online, you may print your certificate of completion and mail it to the Marine Board with a completed application and $20.
