Overview
In 1995, Oregon motor carrier regulation was transferred from the Public Utility Commission to the Department of Transportation by Senate Bill 1149. To maintain a high level of service to regulated industries, a legislative budget note called for ODOT to form a Commercial Transportation Advisory Council composed of representatives of organizations having an interest in motor carrier programs.
The Motor Carrier Transportation Advisory Committee is the longest-running advisory group of its kind in ODOT’s history. Its purpose is to confer, collaborate, advise and advocate. The committee is made up of representatives from the Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon State Police, the trucking industry and related industries. The committee strives to meet as often as once a month.
