Multnomah Falls (I-84) Timed Use Permits are required for summer 2025
The U.S. Forest Service's annual summer Multnomah Falls (I-84) Timed Use Permit system for I-84 Exit 31 has resumed for 2025. Permits are required during the summer tourism peak.
A Timed Use Permit is required for visitors using the I-84 (Exit 31) Multnomah Falls parking lot between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May 23 through Sept. 1, 2025. Information about the permits is available at https://www.recreation.gov.
Construction is underway on the Historic Columbia River Highway/U.S. 30. The Historic Highway west of Multnomah Falls originally scheduled to reopen Memorial Day 2025, has reopened early between Wahkeena Falls and Multnomah Falls. The east viaduct will close from fall 2025 to spring 2026. Learn more.
There is no parking along the shoulder of the Historic Columbia River Highway, and parking is extremely limited at the small lot along the Historic Highway/U.S. 30 at Multnomah Falls.
Sasquatch Shuttle is operating this lot and charging for parking in a first-come, first served basis. There are six ADA parking spots at this lot for those with valid ADA placards. Improperly parked vehicles are subject to ticketing and/or towing – make sure to park only in designated spots.
The most reliable way to see Multnomah Falls continues to be transit, by bicycle, or by tour/shuttle.
Columbia Area Transit (CAT) runs the Columbia Gorge Express serving Gateway Transit Center in Portland, Multnomah Falls, Cascade Locks, and Hood River. Avoid the congestion by planning your trip in advance. If you want to visit Multnomah Falls by personal vehicle, the best way is to take I-84 to Exit 31.
Updates for permits needed in 2026 will be posted on this website and on recreation.gov in advance. We anticipate permits will be required during the summer tourism peak.
