Social Science Analysis Performance Assessment Tasks

Overview

Social Science Analysis Performance Assessment Tasks provide an optional assessment opportunity to embed cross-content skills (i.e., social science analysis, writing, speaking, etc.) into a larger performance task.

  • School districts and public charter schools that offer grades 3 through 8 or high school shall administer local performance assessments in writing and speaking for students in grades 3 through 8 and at least once in high school (OAR 581-22-0615).

Social Science Analysis Performance Assessment Tasks are a useful instrument where students are asked to prepare a unique response to one or more prompts or essential questions aligned to current instruction. These assessment tasks provide a powerful way to measure both student historical knowledge and the ability to apply analysis skills using multiple forms of communication.

Social Science Analysis Resources

To support students, teachers, administrators, and parents, ODE has provided additional links to performance assessment resources aligned to the social science analysis standards.

  • Oregon Scoring Guides for Social Science Analysis Performance Assessment Tasks
The Oregon Scoring Guides webpage contains content area scoring guides aligned to different grades and the different assessed skill areas (i.e., social science analysis, writing, speaking, etc.). Note: districts may locally develop social science analysis scoring guidelines so that they can provide feedback to students, or they may use the state Scoring Guide.

The accordion below provides additional links for useful resources (e.g. sample prompts, resources for embedding social science analysis, and a link to the Oregon Social Science Standards web page).
