Recidivism

From January 2011 through 2017 (the most recent year for which recidivism figures are currently available), only 15 of the 896 PSRB clients living in the community on conditional release were convicted of new felonies or misdemeanors. The Board's cumulative recidivism rate for the same period was 0.46 percent. By comparison, the most recent recidivism rate for individuals on Parole or Post-Prison Supervision is 18% and on Probation is 14% (Criminal Justice Commission, 2019) after being on parole or probation for three years.
As of January 1, 2020:
  • Number of people currently under PSRB jurisdiction: 601
  • Number of people under PSRB jurisdiction in Oregon State Hospital: 228
  • Number of people under PSRB jurisdiction who are on conditional release from the state hospital: 364
  • Cumulative annual recidivism rate for GEI clients since 2011: 0.5%.
  • Percent of adult conditional releases maintained in the community per month in 2018: 99.4%.
