Visiting Information

If you’re already on your youth’s OYA Approved Visitor List:
No new approvals are needed for JWTP.

New Visitors:
Each visitor must turn in a Request to Visit form before coming to visit. You can turn it in to the front office staff at Oak Creek, mail it in, or fax it in.


Please turn in the form at least two weeks before you hope to visit. This gives us time to process your request.

We use the information on the form to do a criminal background check. We do these checks for anyone age 12 or older.

If you have an arrest or conviction, it does not always mean you cannot come into the facility — it depends on your situation. If you have an active warrant, we will not let you inside.

If you are approved by facility managers, we will put you on your youth’s OYA Approved Visitor List. You must be on this list in order to visit.

You must schedule your visit before you come. To schedule: call the Oak Creek front desk at 541-791-5900 during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Who May Visit Youth?
All visitors first must go through the approval process.

Typically, close and extended family and other supportive people may visit. This is only if their application is approved.

Visitors under 18 may visit if they are approved first, but they must be supervised by a parent or guardian age 18 or older.

​Sundays, 1-3 p.m.
Tuesdays, 6-7:30 p.m.

Special Visits:
If you are not able to visit during regular visiting hours, you can request a special visit by contacting JWTP’s camp counselor or assistant camp director.

If we think your clothing is disruptive or inappropriate, we will not let you inside JWTP. We are trying to create a positive, family-friendly environment for youth, families, and other visitors.

If you wear these items, you will not be allowed inside:
  • Clothing that is torn in inappropriate places. 
  • Short shorts and short skirts/mini skirts.
  • Spaghetti strap shirts and tank tops.
  • Low-cut clothing that shows your cleavage, lower back or undergarments.
  • Sheer, transparent, or mesh fabric, other than hosiery.
  • Fanny packs, money belts, or belts with compartments.
  • Messages that promote drugs, tobacco, alcohol, violence, pornography, nudity, gangs, or prejudice, or are demeaning to others
    ​

​You may bring these items inside:

  • Current photo ID (required if you are 13 or older)
  • Automobile key and remote 
  • Life-sustaining medicine for yourself, such as an inhaler. It must be ​in its original container. Please try not to bring more medicine than you will need to make it through the visit. Please let visitation staff know you have the medicine when you arrive.
  • Cameras: These are allowed only if you get prior approval from facility managers. You may take pictures during your visit under the supervision of our staff. When you’re not taking pictures, the camera must stay with visitation staff. Cell phone cameras are not allowed.
  • Basic items for an infant. Staff will search these items.
  • Nursing mothers: talk with JWTP staff about options.

Items for Youth – Prior Approval Not Needed

Food and drink to eat during the visit: 
  • You may bring store-bought, restaurant, or fast food. Drinks must be in sealed, unopened containers.
  • Homemade items, fountain drinks, and bulk food items are not allowed. 
  • You may not share your food or drinks with other youth or families. 
  • Alcohol, tobacco, or marijuana products are not allowed, including edible marijuana products.
  • All food you bring must be eaten during the visit. We will not store leftovers.
Food or drink for use on unit: Non-perishable, pre-packaged items only. Protein drinks are not allowed. It is each youth’s responsibility not to have more food or drinks than they can fit into their canteen tote. 

Hygiene items and makeup: No liquid eyeliner. Makeup must be new and unopened. These must fit into the youth’s hygiene tote with the lid shut. Glass containers are not allowed. Medications or medicated products are not allowed — this includes prescriptions and over-the-counter items. 

1 book or magazine: This must fit in the youth’s dorm tote with the lid shut. The content may not be overtly sexual or depict substance use/abuse, gangs, or illegal activity.

Money: If you bring money for depositing into your youth’s account, please turn it in to visitation staff, and they will give you a receipt.

All items for the youth to use on their unit must be clearly marked with their name.


Items for Youth – Prior Approval Necessary

You may also provide these items to youth when you come for visiting, but only with prior approval from JWTP managers. If you send or bring them without prior approval, you will have to take them home. We will not do approvals on the spot when you arrive.
  • Clothing and shoes
  • Arts and crafts supplies
  • Jewelry 
  • Music CDs and DVDs (no burned CDs or R-rated movies; if our staff feel the content of the CD or DVD is inappropriate, we will not give it to your youth)
  • Photographs
  • Small radios (no Bluetooth, wireless, or connection to internet)
​All items you bring for your youth must be turned into a JWTP staff person before the visit begins. You may not give them directly to your youth. 

Any items you bring to the facility may be searched by our staff.
​

  • ​Weapons or potential weapons
  • Purses, backpacks, or briefcases
  • Cell phones or watch phones
  • Any device that connects to the internet
  • Tobacco, marijuana, and vaping products (may not be used anywhere on the JWTP or Oak Creek grounds, even in the parking lot)
  • Lighters and matches
  • Illegal drugs or paraphernalia
  • Alcohol products
  • Prescription drugs, unless they are life-sustaining​

Consequences for Contraband

It is a Class C felony to provide contraband items to youth in custody or to bring those items into an OYA facility without authorization. (ORS 162.185)
  • You may not give anything to youth during your visit except food items you’ve brought for the visit.
  • Our staff are allowed to search you or your items at any time when you are inside our facility.
  • All areas of our facility are under 24-hour video surveillance.
  • If you bring in something that is considered dangerous contraband, we will file charges, and we will review your future visiting status, depending on the severity of the situation.​

  • Youth may not have more than five visitors at a time. If you want to bring more visitors, you must get approval in advance from facility managers.
  • Visits happen in JWTP’s dining room. Visitors and youth sit together at tables. 
  • Some toys and games are available for small children. The child’s parent or guardian who is 18 or older must supervise and be with them at all times.
  • Please limit physical contact with your youth to a short embrace at the beginning and end of the visit. Do not contact any other youth, other than a casual greeting.
  • Please be respectful to OYA staff, youth, and other visitors during your visit. We ask that you and your youth follow staff directions, use appropriate language, keep your conversation topics appropriate, and keep your conversations at a normal volume. 
  • We work hard to create a positive, family-friendly environment for all youth and visitors. The visiting room is small, so please be respectful of other youth and visitors in the room with you.
  • Staff may restrict or deny a youth’s visiting privileges and may deny visitors entry into JWTP or make them leave for reasons related to safety, security, or facility order. If you or your youth do not behave appropriately, or you try to bring in something that is not allowed, we will ask you to leave and we will review whether you may visit again. 
  • If the facility has a sudden safety or security issue, it is possible that visits may be delayed or cancelled. This is rare, but sometimes it happens.​

​If you live far away and cannot come to the facility for visits, you can sign up for a free video visit. 

We use Microsoft Teams for video visits. Contact JWTP’s camp counselor to set up a video visit.​
