Visiting Information

​​If you don’t have permission before you come, you won’t be allowed to visit.

Fill out a “Request to Visit” form.

Turn it in to your youth’s case coordinator. We use the information on the form to do a criminal background check.
 
Please turn in the form at least two weeks before you hope to visit. This gives us time to process your request.

Your youth’s multidisciplinary team (MDT) will review your request and decide whether to approve it. Parents are invited to be part of the MDT. Sometimes Rogue Valley administrators also review your request.

If you have an arrest or conviction, Rogue Valley administrators will review your situation to decide whether to allow you to visit. If you have an active warrant, we will not let you inside. If you are on probation or parole, you need approval from your supervising agency.

If your application is approved, we will add you to your youth’s Approved Visitors List. If you’re not on this list, you may not visit. Contact your youth’s case coordinator to learn if you are on the list.

You will need to fill out a Facility Access Form​ for your first visit. (Facility Access Form - Spanish​)

If you are already on your youth’s Approved Visitors List from another OYA facility, you do not need to go through the approval process again.


Who May Visit Youth?

All visitors must get approval to visit first.

Typically, close and extended family and other supportive people may visit. This is only if their application is approved.​

Visitors under 18 are able to visit if they are approved and they are supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

Only three visitors at a time are allowed. Contact the youth’s case coordinator about possibly making an exception.​

Saturdays and Sundays
  • 9 to 10:30 am
  • 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 pm
  • 1:30 to 3:00 pm
​Mondays
  • Charlie Unit: 6:30 to 7:45 pm
Tuesdays
  • Bravo Unit: 6:30 to 7:45 pm
Thursdays
  • Charlie Unit: 6:30 to 7:45 pm
​If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your visit, you will not be allowed inside.

Only three visits per week are allowed, if space is available.

All visits are by appointment only. The deadline for making appointments is noon on the Thursday before you wish to visit.

To schedule, call your youth's Case Coordinator and leave a message.

Please include:

  • Name of the youth and their living unit
  • Names of the approved visitors who wish to come
  • Date and time you wish to visit
  • Your phone number

Please do not leave more than one message. We will call you to confirm that you are on the schedule.

If you are unable to visit during the times listed, contact your youth’s case coordinator or living unit manager​. They may consider different arrangements.​

You may visit up to three times per week. Youth may have up to three visitors at a time. Youths’ case coordinators may grant exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

If we think your clothing is disruptive or inappropriate, we will not let you inside Rogue Valley. We are trying to create a positive, family-friendly environment for youth, families, and other visitors.

If you wear these items, you will be asked to change clothes (we have a small supply of shirts available) or leave:
  • Low-cut shirts or shirts that reveal your lower back or undergarments
  • Short skirts
  • Short shorts
  • Sleeveless shirts, spaghetti strap shirts, and tank tops
  • Clothing that is torn in inappropriate places
  • Watches
  • Fanny packs, money belts, or belts with compartments.
  • Hats, beanies, or other headwear (if you need a religious head covering, talk with your youth’s case coordinator before coming to visit)
  • Messages that promote drugs, tobacco, alcohol, violence, pornography, nudity, gangs, or prejudice, or are demeaning to others

​These are the only items you may bring inside:
  • ​Current photo ID (required if you are 13 or older)
  • One debit or credit card or no more than $20 in dollar bills or coins (for buying food from the vending machines)
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Medicine you need to stay alive, such as an inhaler (must be in original container)
  • Basic items for an infant. Items must be in a clear plastic bag:
    • Diapers​
    • Wipes
    • Empty plastic baby bottle (one per child)
    • Small amount of formula or sealed baby food (no glass containers)
    • (Nursing mothers: talk with your youth’s case coordinator about options)
  • Pictures: Up to 10 non-Polaroid photos for viewing during the visit. The photographs must first be reviewed by visitation staff. Take the photos with you when you leave. If you want to give photos to youth, you must mail them.

The following items may not be brought into the visiting area but can be placed inside available lockers:
  • Automobile key and remote
  • Cell phones and mp3 players
  • ​Laptops, flash drives, or anything that connects to the internet
  • ​Purses, briefcases, wallets or backpacks

These items are not allowed inside the facility:
  • Weapons or potential weapons
  • Cameras or audio/video recorders
  • Watches, including smart watches
  • Illegal drugs or paraphernalia
  • Food or drinks (you may buy food or drinks inside)
  • Water bottles
  • Baby-related items, except for the basics
  • Prescription drugs, unless you need them to stay alive
  • Tobacco, marijuana, and vaping products (not allowed anywhere on the Rogue Valley grounds)
  • Packages (must be mailed; must be pre-approved by youth’s case coordinator)
  • Money for youth (must be mailed)
Consequences of Contraband
It is a Class C felony to provide contraband items to youth in custody or to bring those items into an OYA facility without authorization. (ORS 162.185)
  • You will have to clear a metal detector successfully before you are allowed to enter our facility. This is to help keep all youth, staff, and visitors safe.
  • You may not give anything to youth during your visit except food or drinks from our vending machines.
  • You are subject to a search at any time when you are inside our facility.
  • We will not let you inside if:
    • you cannot clear our metal detector.
    • we think your clothing is disruptive or inappropriate.
    • we suspect that you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
    • you bring in items that are not allowed. We may also decide to not let you visit again, depending on the situation.

Check in at the visitation entrance with your photo ID. All visitors age 13 or older must show a photo ID.

Do not bring inside anything that’s not allowed! Check the list of what items are allowed inside. Leave everything else at home or in your locked vehicle.

You will have to clear a metal detector. Exceptions can be made for metal implants.
 
Once you enter the facility, please stay there until your visit is done. If you have to leave, re-entry will not be permitted. 

Once you’re inside:

We have snacks and drink vending machines. You may buy items for you and your youth to eat during the visit. The machines accept cash or credit and debit cards. Youth may not handle money or use the vending machines.

Youth can purchase photo tickets at the canteen for staff to take photos of you and your youth during visitation. The photo will then go to the youth.

Do not give anything to your youth except the food or drinks you buy from us. It is a Class C felony to provide contraband items to youth in our facility.

We have some board and card games you can play with your youth, as well as a few toys and games for young children during the visit. The child’s parent or guardian must supervise and be with them at all times.

It’s OK to have brief physical contact with your youth. Please limit it to a short embrace at the beginning and end of the visit. Please don’t contact other youth or their families, other than a casual greeting.

Please act respectfully during your visit! Please follow staff instructions, use appropriate language, and keep your conversations at a normal volume.

If you live far away and cannot come to the facility for visits, you can sign up for a video visit. We use Microsoft Teams for video visits.


Video visits, like in-person visits, must be approved by the youth’s treatment team. First, you must submit a Request to Visit form, and then sign a video visiting agreement.
