Response Ready Oregon

About the Program

GIF_Response_Ready_Oregon.gif

The Response Ready Oregon program was created to boost capacity and modernize wildfire response within the Oregon Fire Mutual Aid System (OFMAS). It's goal is to provide the Oregon fire service with the necessary tools to be abe to attack fires while they are small and keep them away from communities.

To achieve this goal, the OSFM launched the OSFM Engine Program which delivered 76 new fire engines and tactical water tenders to agencies across Oregon. The OSFM has also made a series of investments through different grants that bring on seasonal staff, full time firefighters and prevention staff, and apprentices. The agency also has two tools, pre-positioning and immediate response which it uses to respond to the growing wildfire crisis.

Together this program is having a profound impact in communities all over Oregon. Please explore this webpage to learn more.

How We Respond

Click on the images below to explore how the Oregon State Fire Marshal and the Oregon fire service work together to respond to emergencies across the state.

Pre-Positioning

Part of the Response Ready Oregon initiative is the ability for the OSFM to pre-position resources ahead of expected increased wildfire conditions, such as high winds, lightning, or hot weather. During 2023, the OSFM pre-positioned resources five times.

Immediate Response

Immediate Response is another tool the OSFM created to mobilize OFMAS resources to an active incident. In 2023, the OSFM mobilized firefighters and apparatus to 16 incidents to bolster initial response capacity.
