Retail Expansion

Retail Expansion is a statewide market-driven process encouraging a variety of retail models that fit the community where a liquor store is proposed.

OLCC has selected eight applicants for appointment as retail liquor store agents in the latest phase of the agency's retail expansion.

In February this year, the Commission announced this latest expansion phase with the new locations proposed for areas within Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties. The Commission received 52 applications for the Phase 6 proposed expansion.

The OLCC's retail expansion program started in 2015 when there were 248 liquor stores across the state. Currently, there are 282 liquor stores operating in Oregon. Population growth, shifting demographics and consumer demand are factors in the store location decision making process.

Commissioners are required to ensure that liquor store operators manage their operations in a safe and professional manner, balancing providing an economic benefit to the state, and providing Oregon consumers with a range of distilled spirit selections while at the same time keeping alcohol out of the hand of minors.
