Closing out a project

Español

As a project ends, it is important to ensure all necessary steps are completed for a smooth closeout. A final inspection and walk-through with the homeowner will help confirm that all HARP requirements have been met.

Final inspection and walk-through

As your construction or repair project gets closer to completion, work with the homeowner to ensure that their home meets all HARP requirements. Together, you will do a final walk-through of the property to resolve any remaining issues.

When the property passes inspection, your local municipality will provide you with a Certificate of Occupancy. Then, you need to provide that certificate to the homeowner and to HARP. Finally, request a final inspection from the program.

Warranty binder

When the project is over, you are required to provide homeowners with a warranty binder, which serves as a reference manual containing all warranties related to the project for their reference and protection. This binder can contain manuals and warranty information for the components either used to build the home or used in the completed home. Contractors must promptly address any warranty-related questions from the homeowner.

The warranty terms are:

Reconstruction

  • One-year fit and finish
  • Three-year mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
  • 10-year structural

Rehabilitation (for components covered by the program scope)

  • One-year fit and finish
  • Two-year mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
