Abstract:
This dataset contains records of heart attack (myocardial infarction) inpatient hospitalizations among Oregon residents. Hospitalizations are selected based on primary discharge diagnosis coding. These data are stratified by year and month of admission, county of residence, age group, and gender. Indicators calculated from this dataset include age-adjusted rates, age-specific rates, crude rates, annual number and number of hospitalizations by month. |

The purpose of the Oregon EPHT Program is to provide scientific information from a web-based network of hazard, exposure, and health effect data to support actions that improve the health of communities. By bringing together, and standardizing, local, state, and national data sources of environmental and health information, scientists, policymakers, and the public will be able to more effectively address fundamental questions about relationships between environmental exposures and health effects. The Oregon EPHT Program is part of a National EPHT Network sponsored by the CDC. The Oregon EPHT Program resides in the Research & Education Section of the Office of Environmental Public Heath (OEPH) which is in the Public Health Division of the Oregon Health Authority.
The Oregon Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Program obtains calendar year inpatient hospitalization discharge data annually through an agreement between the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (OAHHS) and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Office for Oregon Health Policy and Research (OHPR) Research & Data Unit. Population data used in calculating the indicators are annual estimates obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

These data include inpatient hospitalizations of individuals who are discharged from fifty-seven acute care hospitals in Oregon. These data are based only on primary discharge diagnosis codes (ICD9-CM 410). Race and ethnicity are not reported in the dataset due to issues with the quality of the data collection process at individual hospitals.
