Abstract:
This dataset contains records for total cancers occurring to Oregon residents including types of cancer that are known or suspected to be associated with environmental factors. Indicators calculated from this dataset include age-adjusted rates and annual number of cases by county and by year for childhood cancer, bladder cancer, brain cancer, female breast cancer, leukemia, lung/bronchus cancer, non-Hodkin lymphoma, thyroid cancer, melanoma and mesothelioma. Cancer classification is based on the SEER Site Recode of ICD-0-3 site and the ICD-0-3 histology from the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program. |

To provide data for the National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network consistent with the guidance for creating cancer incidence Nationally Consistent Data and Measures (NCDMs).
The Oregon Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Program obtains aggregated cancer data annually through an agreement with the Oregon State Cancer Cancer Registry (OSCaR). The Oregon State Cancer Registry is supported by Grant/Cooperative Agreement #U55/CCU021984 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR). Population data used to calculate the indicators are annual estimates obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Oregon State Cancer Registry is not a closed database. This means that numbers can be updated for any year. This dataset includes records for cancer cases, by primary cancer site, for Oregon residents, as reported to the Oregon State Cancer Registry and classified using the SEER Site Recode of ICD-0-3 site and ICD-0-3 histology from the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program. Rates and counts for childhood cancers that are tracked by EPHT are shown for children under the age of 15 and under the age of 20. Childhood cancers are classified according to the SEER site recode, which is based primarily on cancer site. This allows the incidence data for childhood cancers to be categorized in the same groups as adult cancers. Rates and counts for chidhood cancers that are tracked by EPHT are shown for children under the age of 15 and under the age of 20. In situ bladder cancers are included with invasive bladder cancers due to similarity in prognosis. All other types are invasive cancers only. Counts and rates for breast cancer among women are presented separately. All breast cancer (male and female) are included in counts and rates for 'All cancers'. Race and ethnicity are not reported in the dataset.
