Oregon Veterans’ Emergency Financial Assistance Grant Overview
The Oregon Veterans’ Emergency Financial Assistance Program (OVEFAP) is for veterans and their immediate family (spouse, unremarried surviving spouse, child, or stepchild) who are in need of emergency financial assistance. Assistance is granted ONE-TIME only and average award amounts vary.
Information for Applicants
Emergency financial assistance includes, but is not limited to, emergency or temporary housing and related housing expenses, such as expenses for utilities, insurance, house repairs; mortgage or rent assistance; emergency medical or dental expenses; and emergency transportation expenses.
Grant payments are NOT made to applicants. Payment will only be sent to creditors. If the request is awarded, ODVA will work with the Veteran Service Officer, Veteran Advocate, or applicant to acquire the creditor's Taxpayer Identification or other information needed to make payment on behalf of the applicant.
NO payments will be made to credit cards, military charge cards, retail store cards, taxes (property/other), and citations/fines. All creditors will receive a State of Oregon Check - no exceptions.
Eligibility RequirementsApplicants for the Oregon Veterans' Emergency Financial Assistance Grant Grant must be:
- A veteran per ORS 408.225 discharged under honorable conditions, and
- Their un-remarried surviving spouse dependent child or step-child who are Oregon residents per OAR 575-030-0005 and
- Demonstrate an immediate financial need.
How to Apply

- Download and complete the Oregon Veterans' Emergency Financial Assistance Grant Application
- Write a cover letter that MUST include: A brief statement indicating how the desired financial assistance will benefit you. The cover letter should also indicate if you have connected with other supportive services to assist your immediate financial need.
- Use the "Completion Checklist" on the first page of the application to make sure you've included all required supporting documentation
- Submit your completed application and required documents by the 10th of the month you plan to apply to a Veteran Service Office or Veteran Advocate. Incomplete applications will be returned for completion.
