Distracted Driving
Challenging Oregon drivers to ditch the distractions and focus on driving
Distracted driving has become an epidemic in Oregon. Every three hours someone in Oregon is injured by distracted driving behavior. The
Oregon Transportation Commission organized a Distracted Driver Task Force to find ways to curb distracted driving through enforcement, education, data, and policy. The task force includes members from the Oregon/Idaho chapter of the
American Association of Automobile owners, healthcare, law enforcement, courts, the media and transportation partners.
Elements of Distracted Driving
Distractions include anything that diverts your attention away from focusing on your primary task -operating your vehicle - and responding to what is going on around you.
This includes:
- Visual distractions: Anything that takes your eyes off the road.
- Cognitive distractions: Anything that takes your mind off the road.
- Manual distractions: Anything that takes your hands off the wheel.
