ADA Curb Ramp Upgrades, throughout the Portland Metropolitan Area

Construction Phase

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Damascus, Gresham, Hillsboro, Milwaukie, North Plains, Oregon City, Portland, Sherwood, Tigard, Tualatin, Wilsonville, Multnomah)

We are improving over 500 sidewalk curb ramps to the current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards at various locations across the Portland Metropolitan Area. Construction is planned to begin in spring 2025.

Impacts

Construction Impacts

During construction, there will be temporary lane, shoulder, and sidewalk closures near intersections on state highways in the Portland Metropolitan Area. All roads will remain open. We will provide accessible paths around the work zones for people walking, biking and rolling. Generally, it takes 1-2 weeks to complete work on an individual corner, with construction on several corners happening concurrently. However, only one corner per intersection will be under construction at a time to maintain access to nearby businesses and services. We will post here traffic impacts on a weekly basis.

Most of the work will take place during the day, however some nightwork is necessary for this project. Those working or living near work zones may hear the noise from heavy equipment, construction trucks, beeping noise when vehicles are in reverse, and equipment such as concrete saws, drills and jackhammers. Before construction begins, a 24/7 hotline for resolving noise-related concerns will be available.

About

We will replace existing, non-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at non-signalized intersections, signalized intersections and mid-block crossings throughout the Portland Metropolitan Area.

Search the map of curb ramp construction locations to see whether there are project locations near you.

Construction will begin in spring 2025 and will continue intermittently through 2027.

This project is one of a series of projects in Region 1. Separately from this project, we are planning other packages of ADA curb ramp improvements to be constructed in the future.

The ODOT ADA PROGRAM is working to bring more than 25,000 curb ramps throughout Oregon into compliance with Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards. We are committed to new standards for accessible routes through work zones, outreach and addressing public concerns.
