Oregon 99: Rogue River Bridge, Gold Hill Spur

Design Phase

Region 3: Southwestern Oregon (Gold Hill, Jackson)

Improve existing 1927 historic bridge that crosses the Rogue River, which is famous for its beauty and recreational opportunities. This bridge receives heavy pedestrian traffic as it also provides access between the City of Gold Hill and a mobile home park.

For the bridge to remain in service it needs rehabilitation work. Widen the existing 20' wide bridge deck to 24' — and upgrade the existing timber walkway for pedestrians that is compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Construction is anticipated to begin in the early summer of 2026.

Impacts

Traffic Impact

It is anticipated there will be a period of time when the bridge will be completely closed for construction to all traffic, however, a temporary pedestrian access route (TPAR) will be available during construction.

Oregon 99 Gold Hill Bridge over the Rogue River (parallel to the railroad bridge).

Cost and Funding

~$16.4 million

Benefits

The goal is to improve safety and keep everyone connected on the historic structure, including transit, emergency services and freight, bicyclists and pedestrians over this critical crossing of the Rogue River into the Gold Hill and Sams Valley area.

This project will widen and strengthen the existing structure to handle today's traffic while keeping the historic integrity of the bridge.

What Problem Will This Improve?

The current bridge is too narrow for passing vehicles, especially any truck of width including fire, log and delivery trucks. This will widen and improve the structure to handle today's traffic as well as allow it to handle transit buses, bicyclists and pedestrians.
