About
OR 58 connects the Eugene-Springfield metro area and the Bend-Klamath Falls corridor with 3,300 to 16,000 vehicles using it each day. There are several projects underway or being planned in the corridor to improve the roads and bridges. Projects that address pavement quality, look at landslide mitigation, add passing lanes, improve culverts and drainage and retrofit or replace bridges to be earthquake ready.
The Salt Creek Bridge is located just west of the Blue Pool Campground and is in poor condition. We are replacing the bridge with one that will have wider shoulders and be earthquake ready.
With OR 58 being an important freight route, the bridge needs to be replaced before it becomes necessary to restrict heavy vehicles needing to use it.
By replacing and retrofitting the bridges, the OR 58 corridor between U.S. 97 and I-5 can serve as a lifeline route for delivery of supplies between the southern Willamette Valley and Central Oregon after an earthquake.
