Details

About

The Anderson rockfall is located on U.S. 101 at mile point 334.25, approximately three miles south of Gold Beach. The rockfall is fairly active and experiences recurring events despite multiple rock scaling projects.

Material reaching the roadway varies in size from gravel to rocks up to three feet in diameter. Rock in the roadway creates a hazard for drivers who swerve to avoid impacting the debris, or from motorists or ODOT maintenance crews stopping to clear the hazard without traffic control in place.

The project will install a 42-inch barrier mounted with rock protection screen along the northbound shoulder. The pavement will be widened to accommodate the barrier without reducing available shoulder width.
