About
The section of Interstate 5 between Azalea and Glendale was last paved in 2007. The road surface is cracking and requires frequent patching and maintenance.
This project will repave the southbound travel lanes from milepost 81.4 to 87.4, and the northbound lanes from milepost 81.4 to 89.5. Most of this area will include a 2½-inch grind/inlay, but some heavily damaged areas will receive a deeper grind.
Three southbound ramps will be repaved: the Exit 83 (Barton Road) on-ramp and the Exit 86 (Quines Creek) on- and off-ramps.
The southbound chain-up area, located along the right shoulder between the Barton Road and Glendale interchanges, will be repaved.
The project will also remove the asphalt and seed the ramp areas of the decommissioned southbound rest area at milepost 82.
Old guardrail will be replaced along the shoulders as needed. Cable barrier will be installed in some areas of the roadway median.
The project will also establish a clear zone by removing trees from the interstate median and along the shoulders. This will help reduce the number of road-departure crashes that result in fatalities and serious injuries.
