U.S. 30: Pendleton Signal Upgrade Project Phase 2

Construction Phase

Region 5: Eastern Oregon (Pendleton, Umatilla)

We are replacing signal poles, upgrading traffic signals and ADA sidewalk ramps at the intersection of SW Dorion Avenue (U.S. 30) and SW 1st Street.

Impacts

Traffic Impact

Watch for lane closures on Dorion Avenue.

SW First Street will see a full closure on the south side of Dorion. The north side will remain open.

Traffic signals at this intersection have been turned off.

Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted east to 2nd Street and west to Main Street in order to cross Dorion.

Construction Impacts

Expect lane and sidewalk closures during construction activities at the SW Dorion Avenue/SW First Street intersection work sites. Pedestrian detours to accommodate all users will be set up and marked during sidewalk closures. Motorists may want to use alternate routes during drilling/construction activities that require lane restrictions.

Meetings and Events

We will work with the city of Pendleton and business partners to prepare for this project. We will also work with businesses that will be impacted by the project.

We held an online open house January 11 through January 27, 2023. The information presented in the open house remains available for viewing at the following link.

During the online open house, we received questions about the ADA curb ramp and sidewalk treatments. See the FAQ at the bottom of the page.

Schedule

For the week of August 26:
Crews will be pouring concrete for curb and gutters, and sidewalk this week and next.
Most of the drainage system on the south side has been completed.
Electrical work includes installing conduits, pole foundations, and pulling electrical wires.

The project is scheduled to be completed fall 2024.

About

The existing poles and span wires holding the traffic signals at these intersections are old and do not meet current safety standards.

We will replace signal poles and upgrade traffic signals at this intersection.
  • SW Dorion Avenue (U.S. 30) and SW 1st Street.
Due to an increase in costs, we have removed work at SW Court Avenue and SW 1st Street for this phase. Funds will be allocated to the next phase of this project.

Replacement signals will have new metal poles with arched extensions holding signal heads.
