Traffic Impact

• ​​Short-term single lane and shoulder closures in construction areas.
• Traffic lights temporarily disabled at some intersections with flaggers directing traffic.
• Temporary sidewalk closures with signed pedestrian detours around the work zones.
• Daytime and nighttime work.
  

Construction Impacts

​Work will occur at multiple intersections at once, with most traffic impacts limited to one to seven days at each location. There are a small number of intersections that will see traffic impacts for a longer duration. 

Nighttime Noise Impacts

To minimize traffic impacts during the day, some night work may be required. Those working or living in the area may hear the noise from heavy equipment and construction trucks.

About

​​​​​​​​The All Roads Transportation Safety Program​ (ARTS) identifies intersections where a high concentration of crashes occur and implements safety improvements to help reduce crashes at these locations.  Intersections typically have high crash rates.

An upcoming ARTS project in Hood River County improves safety at 22 locations on OR 281(Hood River Highway/Tucker Road), OR 282 (Odell Highway) and OR 35 (Mt. Hood Highway).

Planned safety and visibility improvements include:

• Replacing existing traffic signal heads with reflective backplates at two intersections on OR 281 at May Street and Brookside Drive to increase signal visibility.
• Update existing signs including larger “Stop” signs and street name signs at intersections and side streets to alert drivers of upcoming intersections on OR 281, OR 282 and OR 35.​
• New street lights to improve visibility and provide drivers advanced warning at the intersection of OR 35 and OR 282.
• Vegetation trimming in some locations for better visibility.
