About
We are installing new overhead and underground fiber optic cable where gaps exist along OR 8 between SW 198th Avenue in Aloha to OR 217 in Beaverton. Existing fiber optic cable will also be modified. We rely on fiber optic cable for high-speed communications (also known as broadband) to operate traffic signals and traffic monitoring systems.
Fiber optic cable is the most reliable and consistent medium to deliver broadband, critical for ODOT crews and emergency responders to rapidly respond to traffic incidents and better manage congestion and delays on highways.
This work also sets the foundation for future improvements along the corridor that require high-speed broadband communications.
