About
Oakridge is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Eugene on OR Highway 58, which is the primary route between Eugene and central Oregon. It's primarily a two lane road with very few passing lanes, especially west of Oakridge, with a high percentage of truck freight traffic.
This is a HB2017 funded project that is intended to enhance safety by providing a new location to safely pass slower moving vehicles.
The project will:
Construct a westbound passing lane approximately two miles west of Oakridge.
Add a left turn lane on OR 58 to turn onto Harbor Drive.
Provide safe private property accesses to the highway, such as a frontage road.
A passing lane allows drivers to go around slower vehicles, helping keep traffic flowing smoothly and lessening driver frustration. We’ll add a passing lane on OR 58 from milepost 31.6 to 32.4, between Westfir Road and just east of Harbor Drive. We picked this location for a passing lane after reviewing:
The distance between the existing passing lanes on OR 58.
The area to avoid steep hillsides and water.
The existing roads and where people access their properties.
Estimated project costs.

What we're working on now and next steps
The team has found several environmental factors that constrain the projects progress, we're assessing how it should proceed.
Sign up to receive email alerts for OR 58 updates, we’ll be reaching out with more information to the community and to impacted property owners as we work on the project design.
