This project arises from many years of analysis along the south Redmond U.S. 97 corridor.
ODOT & the City of Redmond worked together to complete a refinement plan for the south Redmond transportation corridor. The plan outlines a series of improvements along U.S. 97 and local streets from OR 126/Highland Avenue to the Yew Avenue Interchange. The plan outlines a series of improvements along U.S. 97 and local streets from OR 126/Highland Avenue to the Yew Avenue Interchange.
The plan outlines improvements such as signal upgrades, signal installation, medians, sidewalks, cycle tracks, pavement preservation, additional city street connections between U.S. 97 and N. Canal Boulevard, etc. The preservation work includes a rebuild of U.S. 97 within this corridor.
Currently, the only funds programmed for this project is $1 million for planning and design.
Total construction cost, including new facilities such as signals, curb ramps, medians, sidewalks, and roadway preservation – as spelled out in the south Redmond refinement plan – is estimated at $75 million in 2019. ODOT and City of Redmond are partnering on this project and are both are seeking federal grants to pay for planned improvements.
Phased approach
The refinement plan recommended a phased approach, to give planners the flexibility to adapt timelines to availability of funding. However, the existing pavement is failing, and needs immediate attention.
The refinement plan is the guiding vision for development of the south Redmond transportation corridor over the next 5-10 years, depending on funding.
