What is the IFTA?
The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is an agreement among states and Canadian provinces (except Alaska, Hawaii, Yukon, and Northwest Territories) that standardizes the reporting of fuel use taxes by motor carriers operating in more than 1 member state or province.

Oregon IFTA Requirements
To qualify for an IFTA license, you must:
- Based in Oregon with a physical address located in Oregon.
- Operate qualified vehicles in 2 or more states or provinces (including Oregon) and meet at least 1 of the following requirements:
o Commercial vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW); or
o Vehicles with 3 or more axles regardless of weight; or
o Combination vehicles over 26,000 pounds GVW (does not include recreational vehicles). - Qualify corporations with the Oregon Secretary of State, unless you are a sole proprietor
- Register with the United States Department of Transportation with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
- Complete a Schedule A IRP/IFTA Combined Application (form 9908) for a license.
Oregon IFTA Tax Return
All active Oregon IFTA licensees must file a IFTA Tax Return (form 9740) , even when there is no tax due, regardless of whether there was Oregon only operations or no operations for the reporting period. If you have an Oregon IFTA account, you must still file a mileage tax report for Oregon’s weight-mile tax in addition to your quarterly fuels tax report. Oregon Trucking Online account to file electronically.
