Stages and Impacts
Build a Diversion Road
U.S. 101 is an important route along the Oregon coast. The first step during construction is to build a temporary diversion road around the existing culvert on the highway. This will allow us to build the bridge and remove the existing culvert without a detour.
Divert Traffic and Build New Bridge
Once the temporary diversion road is built, we will shift traffic onto it. The speed limit will be reduced to allow traffic to flow freely in both directions. We estimate this to happen a couple of months after construction starts.
Once traffic is shifted we will start to build the new bridge.
Shift Traffic onto New Bridge
Once the bridge is built, we will shift traffic from the temporary road back onto U.S. 101 and the new bridge.
Dig Channel Under Bridge
The last part of the work to be done is to address the fish passage under the new structure. To do this we will dig a channel under the bridge. This work can only happen during the in water work window from July 1 to September 15.
