ODA’s Insect Pest Prevention and Management Program protects Oregon’s agricultural economy from insect pests, identifies and collects insects, and promotes pollinator communities vital to the state’s agricultural and natural landscapes.

Need help identifying an insect? Explore information and resources like screening aids and field guides for identifying species of bees, beetles, household insects, spiders, slugs, snails, stink bugs, and Northern Giant Hornet lookalikes.

The ODA insect collection houses an insect and arthropod collection with more than 100,000 pinned specimens and 6,000 unique species. Tours of the collection are available to the public upon request. Learn more about the collection.

ODA is proud to be part of the Oregon Bee Project, a cooperative effort with the Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) to maintain and enhance bee health in Oregon. ODA is responsible for managing the state’s apiary registration program and completing the APHIS National Honey Bee Survey. Explore ODA’s Common Bee Pollinators of Oregon Crops guide.

Many species of insects and invertebrates are approved for use as pets, pet food, biological control agents, education, and wild release in Oregon. Please refer to ODA's Oregon Approved Invertebrate List for approved species.
