What is a Temporary Initial License for?
The Temporary Initial License is a 6-month license that allows a student that is ready to graduate within the next 5 months OR a graduate that has not yet sat for the desired Registry exam, to gain required clinical experience in order to fulfill requirements for a credential.
In Oregon, a person must hold a License issued by OBMI in order to perform radiological procedures.
What if I need more than 6 months to complete my clinical requirements?
If you need more than 6 months to obtain the required clinical experience, you may renew a Temporary license for an additional 6 months.
Do I need an Employer before I apply for a Temporary License?
Yes! You must already have an employer in order to apply for a Temporary License.
Do I need to get a background check including Fingerprints as part of my application for a Temporary License?
Yes! On the Temporary License application there is a section regarding fingerprinting. There is a one-time fingerprint fee and instructions for having your fingerprints taken at a Fieldprint office near you. Finger print cards are not accepted.
Why does it seem to take a long time to get my Temporary License issued?
OBMI will not issue a License until your background check is completed and that includes waiting until the Oregon State Police completes your fingerprint background. There are no exceptions and no licenses will be issued until the Oregon State Police verify your background.
I have passed my Registry Exam and have my credential(s), now what?
You must apply for a Permanent Initial License within 30- days of obtaining your Registry Credential(s).
Do I need to get a fingerprint check again and send a new picture for the Permanent Initial License?
No! If you have already submitted fingerprints and a picture you do not need to resubmit them.
