Become a Visitor

Attention

The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) Visiting Rule (291-127) was recently updated. Please visit the Department News and Updates page for details. The information below also reflects the recent changes.

Getting Added to an Adult In Custody's Visiting List

Once an adult in custody has completed the intake process, they can submit visiting applications. In order to do this, they will need some basic information about the person wishing to visit them, including: the visitor’s name, address, date of birth, driver’s license number and phone number.

AICs may be permitted an unlimited number of approved visitors on their respective visiting lists, and it is their responsibility to monitor and maintain their visiting list. A criminal records check will be completed on all applicants age 15 and over.

For information on professional visits, see the Professional Visit and Communication Guide.

Submit an Application

A visitor can also complete and submit a visiting application, and if approved will automatically be added to the AICs visiting list. However, an AIC can choose to remove the visitor from their list at any time. You can email the visiting application to the Visitor Services Unit or fax to (503) 373-1173. You can also mail the form to Visiting Services Unit, 3723 Fairview Industrial Dr. Suite 200, Salem, OR 97302.

Visiting Approval

The AIC will be notified in writing if a visitor has been approved and added to their visiting list or if an application has been denied. It is the AICs responsibility to notify the visitor of the approval or denial. For denied applications, you may review the eligibility requirements for requesting an administrative review.
