"Codes should be reasonable, necessary, and practical. That's where they should stop."
-Greg Strombeck, Assistant Administrator, 1989
During 2023, the division revised its strategic plan to embody these values. Toward that end, BCD reaffirmed its commitment to customer service and will focus on maximizing the use of technology that supports its daily business functions: adopting codes and administrative rules, performing plan reviews and inspections, providing electronic permitting to local jurisdictions and contractors, issuing licenses, enforcing licensing laws, handling contracts and financial transactions, and hosting public meetings. We will also look to improve internal and external communication by collaborating with our stakeholders to break down silos and convene appropriate groups to help address cross-sectional and cross-divisional issues to better serve the construction industry. In addition, the division will continue its commitment to training and education, to help ensure a talented and efficient workforce.
Our division has a commitment to take on the challenges that face us and adapt to meet the changing needs of our customers. As we move into the next decade, our staff is prepared to create the foundation for safe, efficient, and affordable buildings in Oregon.
"The 50-year anniversary of the statewide building code system reinforces the lasting legacy and forethought of the leaders who passed Senate Bill 73 and everyone who came together to make it successful in the decades to follow. Oregon can be proud of its unique and effective code system."-Alana Cox, Administrator
