Mission Statement
The Oregon Department of Transportation is committed to equal opportunity in hiring and awarding contracts. ODOT promotes equal opportunity within its own workforce and with the workforce of contracted employers who provide services for the agency.
What is the Equal Employment Opportunity Program?
The Equal Employment Opportunity Program is a federally required affirmative action program. The program must be used by contractors and subcontractors with federally funded contracts of $10,000 or more. Contractors are required to provide equal employment opportunities to socially or economically disadvantaged groups. The program also has goals for minority and female participation, measured through the workforce percentage of contractor work. For more information, read about federal contract provisions, 23 CFR 230.409, and the 2021 Equal Employment Opportunity Program.
What is Discrimination?
Discrimination is defined as treating someone unfairly or harassing them for belonging to or linked with a certain group. It is illegal to discriminate against a job applicant based on race, age, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability. Job applicants can file a complaint if they believe they were discriminated against. Discrimination charges are handled fairly with respect to all parties.
Who benefits from Equal Employment Opportunity?
Employees benefit by working in a discrimination and harassment-free area. Any and all people have equal access to jobs, training and other services. Employers benefit from cooperative workplaces and improved productivity. The public benefits from having services that are created for a diverse community.
