Change your legal name
You must be licensed in your legal name as defined in
OAR 863-014-0003 and
OAR 863-024-0003.
- You can only change your licensed name if you legally change your name.
- A legal name change occurs through:
- Marriage or divorce
- Court order
- Adoption
To notify the Agency of a legal name change:
- Gather the appropriate document supporting your legal name change.

Log into your eLicense account.
- Click the Online Services dropdown menu and select "Name Change/Alternative Name Registration" under the Account header.
- Click start to begin the application process.
- Select the option "I have legally changed my name."
The Oregon Real Estate Agency will review the application upon completion of the application and receipt of the $10 fee. The Agency will email you if the application is approved.
Register an alternative name
To use a name other than your legal name in real estate advertising, such as a nickname or middle name, you must register an alternative name. (OAR 863-015-0125 and 863-025-0125)
- Gather the appropriate documentation demonstrating that you are known by the alternative name you want to register.

- Click start to begin the application process.
- Select the option "I am registering an alternative to my legal name for advertising purposes."
The Oregon Real Estate Agency will review the application upon completion of the application. There is no fee. The Agency will email you if the application is approved.
