About PEBB Worksite Health Screenings

About the 2008 PEBB Worksite Health Screenings

PEBB is partnering with our health plans to provide worksite health screenings again this year to help members maintain good health and learn more about resources to improve their health. The company that will be doing the worksite health screenings is Wellness 2000. The screenings will begin in July and run through the end of December 2008.

The screening will:
  • Help you know "good" and "bad" as well as total cholesterol levels, your blood sugar level, your blood pressure and your body mass index (BMI). Your results can help you identify major health risks.
  • Offer individualized health education to help you improve your overall state of health.
  • Refer you to a healthcare provider, if needed.
  • Help you navigate additional health and wellness resources in your medical plan.

Note: These screenings are free to state employees covered by a PEBB medical plan (Kaiser Permanente, Kaiser Permanente Added Choice, Providence Choice, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon or Samaritan Select), but you must have your medical plan ID card available at the screening.

Worksite Health Screenings Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to frequently asked questions

Why should I have a health screening?
A health screening can help you understand the state of your health and your risks for health problems in the future. This knowledge can help you decide on your healthcare needs and make lifestyle changes to stay healthy.

What can a screening tell me?
Along with identifying your lifestyle risks, the health screening will measure the following health indicators:
  • Blood pressure (the pressure of blood flow in your veins during and between each heart beat)
  • Total cholesterol (the total amount of this waxy substance in your blood)
  • HDL (high-density lipoproteins that remove cholesterol from the blood)
  • LDL (low-density lipoproteins, which allow cholesterol to build up in the arteries)
  • Triglycerides (fat cells in your blood)
  • Body mass index (BMI – the ratio of your height to weight)
  • Waist circumference (the size of your waist as a health indicator)
Who may participate in the worksite screenings?
All employees enrolled in a PEBB medical plan may participate in a screening. Spouses, domestic partners and dependents are not eligible for these screenings.

When will a health screening occur at my worksite?
Check the schedule above, which is updated weekly. If you do not see your agency listed
  • Contact your agency wellness coordinator to find out if your agency plans to host a screening
  • Check the schedule to find a screening at a nearby agency
What screening options do I have?
You have two options: fasting and non-fasting. The fasting screening gives you more-detailed results.

How do I get ready for the fasting test?
For 12 hours before your screening:
  • Do not eat anything
  • Drink lots of water but no beverages (including coffee or tea)
  • Take prescription medications as usual (with water)
What do I need to do to participate?
  1. Contact the person named on the schedule to make an appointment for your screening, which typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Clear the time with your supervisor.
  3. Follow the fasting instructions if you want a fasting screening.
  4. Bring your medical plan ID card to the screening.
  5. Sign the consent form, which gives your permission for the screening staff to conduct your screening.
  6. After the screening, complete the exit survey – on paper if you don’t have access to a computer or online if you do.
How will I know my results?
A health educator will review your results with you and give you a written copy.

Will PEBB or my agency know my results?
No. Neither PEBB nor your agency will ever see your results. PEBB will receive only an aggregate report that summarizes the results of the screening program as a whole.

Who else will get my results?
Your health plan will receive a copy. It may use the information to connect you with additional resources and programs.

Could sharing the information affect my PEBB coverage?
No. Your PEBB medical plan may not use the health-related factors of any individual member or group in PEBB to cancel, refuse, deny or change any aspect of coverage.

Do I have to have my health information shared?
If you do not want your medical plan to receive your screening results, do not participate in a screening. Screenings are optional and voluntary.
